Description
This talk will cover the key elements and outcomes of the AIA's work at the most recent UN Climate Change Conferences COP 27 and COP 28. Topics covered will include: the foundations of global finance's shift to adaptation through the Marrakesh agreement; the global stock take of climate action called for; and a summary of the key elements and outcomes that are relevant for the AEC industry. Opportunities and actions for architects will be evident in this presentation.
Speaker Bio
Illya Azaroff, FAIA is an Architect, geographer, and professor at New York City of Technology (CUNY), and founding principal of +LAB Architect with offices in New York and Los Angeles. He is an internationally recognized leader in disaster mitigation, resilient adaptation and regenerative design strategies. Azaroff was named a 2023 Star of Oceana for his regenerative design work in the Pacific and Caribbean. He led the COP28 delegation for the American Institute of Architects, serves as the Chair of CCADE (Committee on Climate Action and Design Excellence), and on the AIA's National Board of Directors. Over the years Illya has served as a Subject Matter Expert for NGOs, governing bodies and think tanks around the world, and assists in long-term disaster recovery strategies.
