AIA UK Technical Lecture: Architects on Fire

GrenfellLectureImage.png

Can architects provide information that is tolerably design safe in all respects including fire, whilst still maintaining holistic design quality… at a profit… and can contractors build it?

When: Wednesday 15 September 2021, 13:00 - 14:00
Where: Online via Zoom
CES Credits - 1.0 (TBC)

Description

Architects in the UK, since the Grenfell Fire, are under increasing pressure to become “more competent and to demonstrate it“ in terms of Fire design and Health and Safety integration into projects. This lecture is a synopsis of the RIBA core curriculum 2021 lecture, with added information for discussion about the passage of the Building Safety Bill, its secondary legislation and the possible implication for Architects in the future. Also UK Architects could be in some jeopardy if the Defective Premises Act 1974 is invoked, 15 years retrospectively, on all the thousands of buildings that have combustible cladding on them (and other non-compliant defects). Was this regulatory incomprehensibility, fraudulent product information or professional negligence… or simply the result of industry complacency on fire issues?
