Description

Structural reuse of sawn in-situ concrete has rarely been conducted anywhere globally, and certainly not in London. GXN’s recent research with British Land, Arup, and the University of Surrey, has the potential to transform how we design and construct our buildings, not just in the UK but worldwide.

The team set out to innovate. They prototyped a method of extracting disused concrete slabs and testing them with the aim of reusing them in another structural application.  To their knowledge, this is the first time this has been tested at scale in the UK. In doing so, the aim is to demonstrate to the industry what is possible and uncover the barriers to more mainstream adoption of circularity practices so that we can collaboratively begin to solve them.

Join us for our next sustainability lecture as we hear about this important and ground-breaking work from Adam Ozinsky, Senior Associate at 3XN/GXN, Jack Schroeder, Structural Engineer at Arup, and Marc Easton, Associate Structural and Design Engineer at Arup.
