CES Credits - 1.5 LU/ HSW for AIA Members
Description
Traditional settlements across Koutammakou, home of the Batammariba people in Benin and Togo, have become national and cultural icons. In Togo, Koutammakou was recognized as a World Heritage site in 2004. But legal protections and the traditional principles of heritage management alone are not enough to ensure the perpetuation of the living cultural tradition underpinning the construction of Batammariba dwellings.
Join us on Thursday, July 15, for a virtual discussion on World Monuments Fund's (WMF) project to conserve Koutammakou, a 2020 World Monuments Watch site, in collaboration with local artisans, and mitigate the factors that are inhibiting the transmission of traditional knowledge and cultural expression.
Moderated by WMF Principal Project Director Stephen Battle, the discussion will include a video screening and discussion with Executive Director of the Corps of Benin Volunteers Ibrahim Tchan.
This event is hosted in partnership with the New York and UK Chapters of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and has been approved for AIA 1.5 LU / HSW credits.
