From a legal/risk management perspective they will cover topics such as remobilisation issues, the importance of communication now more than ever and the longer term impact of COVID-19 on the construction industry.

Beale & Company Lunchtime Webinar - COVID-19: Mitigating Impacts
Beale & Co. Webinar - COVID-19: Mitigating Impacts on Construction Projects
Date: Monday 30 March at 12:30-1:30pm
COVID-19 and measures taken to contain its spread have by now impacted all businesses in the UK and worldwide. As the crisis worsens the construction sector is likely to be amongst the hardest-hit. There remains uncertainty over whether construction sites are permitted to operate in light of the Government’s unprecedented restriction on people’s movements announced yesterday evening (23 March 2020) and later comments tweeted by the Communities and Housing Secretary suggesting sites can stay open where they can operate safely.
This webinar will consider the impact that the disease is likely to have on businesses and on live projects, and will provide a basic rundown of the rights and remedies that contractors and consultants are likely to have (under bespoke and all major standard-form contracts and appointments), and the steps that they should take to safeguard their positions (both contractually and from a practical perspective).
This webinar is part of a series of webinars by Beale & Co in respect of COVID-19.

AIA UK Film Night: Precise Poetry - Lina Bo Bardi's Architecture
Date: Tuesday, 10 March 2020
Time: 19:00 - 20:30
Venue: BFI Screening Room, 21 Stephen Street, London, W1T 1LN
A documentary film about the famous Italian-Brazilian architect Lina Bo Bardi (1914 in Rome - 1992 in São Paulo), who created poetry through architectural precision.
Told in a series of interviews on the eve of her 100th birthday, Bo Bardi’s colleagues and friends recount the socio-political constraints and personal events that would lead to the timelessness of her work.
This cinematic journey through her most important architectural projects in São Paulo and Salvador da Bahia, poses the question of what remains of a person in the work they leave behind.

AIA UK Film Night: Moriyama-San
Date: Tuesday, 11 February 2020
Time: 19:00 - 20:30
Venue: BFI Screening Room, 21 Stephen Street, London, W1T 1LN
One week in the extraordinary-ordinary life of Mr. Moriyama, a Japanese art-, architecture- and music-enlightened amateur who lives in one of the most famous examples of contemporary Japanese architecture, the Moriyama house, built in Tokyo in 2005 by Pritzker-prize winner Ryue Nishizawa (SANAA).
Introduced in the intimacy of this experimental microcosm which redefines completely the common sense of domestic life, Ila Bêka recounts in a very spontaneous and personal way the unique personality of the owner: an urban hermit living in a small archipelago of peace and contemplation in the heart of Tokyo. From noise music to experimental movies, the film lets us enter into the ramifications of Mr. Moriyama's free spirit.
Moriyama-San, (63 min), the first film about noise music, acrobatic reading, silent movies, fireworks and Japanese architecture!

Roca Exhibition Event: Private View of Sea Change
Date: Thursday, 6 February 2020
Time: 6:30 - 8:30 pm
Venue: Roca London Gallery, Station Court, Townmead Rd, Fulham, London SW6 2PY
Roca London Gallery invites you for a private view of their brand new exhibition, Sea Change: Flood Resilient Architecture for the 21st Century, in the company of curators, Studio Woode.
Human-induced climate change is now operating at a pace faster than ever initially predicted. Global warming is causing sea levels to rise, and increasing the frequency of extreme weather events, putting cities around the world at risk. As flooding becomes the ‘new normal‘, innovative approaches to flood prevention lie in solutions that go beyond walls and barriers, often working with nature, helping us ‘live with water‘. Sea Change explores projects by leading practices in the fields of flood resilient architecture, envisaging a built environment adapted to a new climate reality.
Admission is free but places are limited.

Dear Members,
We invite you to join us for the AIA UK's 2020 Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 15 January, to celebrate the year just gone by and to look to the year ahead.
A drinks and canape reception, hosted generously by our sponsor Herman Miller, will be held prior to the presentations, which will include an overview of our past and upcoming events, as well as a brief administration meeting to approve the 2019 Annual Accounts and elect the 2020 Board Officers and Directors.
The evening will also include a workplace-themed talk by Herman Miller's Bertie van Wyk on the following:
Wellbeing and Social Ergonomics in Workplace Design
A workplace that helps us initiate and regulate social interaction, and that takes into consideration factors like personal space, physical and psychological proximity, and territoriality, helps us feel better. And when we feel better, we work better.
We will explore in workshop format how social ergonomics interacts with cognitive and physical ergonomics to create a full human experience at work.
This talk is worth 1 CE Credit (TBC).
Attendance
Attendance is not mandatory, but we strongly urge you to attend this very important event and participate in the governance of the Chapter. A quorum of AIA members is required for us to fulfill our responsibilities. It is also a great opportunity to meet fellow AIA UK members, give feedback to the Board and influence the Chapter’s plans going forward.
